Another music quiz.. The first is quite easy whereas the next two are somewhat hard, I think.. As usual, comment moderation is in place; and more clues might be revealed depending on the response..
1) What is common among the following pairs of songs? (a) "Janani, Janani" (Thai Moohambikai) and "Idhu kAdhalA" (Thulluvatho Ilamai); (b) "KAdhal sadugudu" (Alaipayuthey) and "Pon mAlai" (NizhalgaL); (c) "Solladi" (KAdhalil vizhundhEn) and "Hello mister" (Iruvar); and (d) "Engirundho" (En jeevan pAduthu) and "Shenbagame" (Enva ooru pAttukkAran)?
2) What is common among these three movies - Priya, Dhool and Kuruvi? (Plz remember it is a music quiz). One song in each of these movies has a common thread connecting it to the other two. To the best of my knowledge, that is a very unique thread. It has something to do with preludes... the songs are a duet, a solo and sort of a duet respectively for the 3 movies mentioned above.
3) Recently we get to hear a lot of remix songs. Surprisingly, AR Rahman, in one of his earliest movies (among his earliest 3) re-mixed a song penned by Vairamuthu and composed by MS Viswanathan. The original version was so-so and not very popular (it was repeatedly played in DD only), but the remade version turned out to be a great hit. Which song is it?

Ok, being an AR Rehman fan, on the last question.. i racked my head on this one for sometime.(I think it is Iruvar) .. hopefully you would let us know the answer quick..
1) Janani & Idhu kadhala - sung by Ilayaraja & Yuvan. Father-son
Kadhal sadugudu & yaaro - sung by SPB Charan & Vijay yesudas - Sons of famous singers
Solladi & Hello - Tippu & Harini - Hus-Wife
Engirundho & Sembagame - sung by latha and asha - sisters
2) Dont know
3) Kannukku mai azhagu from puthiya mugam..
Keeping my fingers crossed for the result :D
As u said ,am able to guess sum answers for the first one..
First pair - sung by father n son - IR and Yuvan
Second pair - Sung by MD's sons, Charan, naveen & vijay yesudas(though nt the main singer)[not sure abt tis answer]
Third pair - sung by singing couple, tippu-harini
Fourth pair - Bollywood nightingales, Lata n Asha
Manda odachings for 2nd and 3rd.. will get thm soon..
3 is Kannukku Mai Azhagu. Vani and PJC sung it in DD with MSV wielding the baton.
Engirundho and Shenbagame - lata and Asha?
kaadhal sadugudu and yaaro - SPB Charan and Vijay Yesudas? StarSingerSons?
Janani and Idhu Kadhala-
Wild Guess #1 - Father and Son -IR and YSR
Wild Guess #2 - brothers TL Maharajan and Deepan Chakravarthy?
Priya- First Stereo movie in tamil
So, Is dhool something like First DTS or something and Kuruvi with a similar achievement?
All wild guesses. man, you stumped me this time.
Anu, nope.. it is not the movie you mentioned. Think within his first 6 movies.. (It need not be the 6th movie.. I gave 6 bcos its my lucky #) :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ganesh Kumar, you are spot on for 1 and 3. Try again with #2, with the help of the added clue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ramya, U got almost everything right in #1.. In fact, there is one mistake by me.. I have corrected it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raj, ur wild guess 1 for 1-(a) is right.. and 3 is rite too..
Try #2, now that I have added a clue.. :)
1) Wild guess - the songs were sung by related folks? (d) Like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bonsle (a) IR and Yuvan (b) SPB Charan and SPB ???
2) Even wilder guess - one song in the movie contains a prelude. Not sure about kuruvi (haven't listened to the songs) but I do know that Priya and Dhool both have one song (Akkarai Cheemai and the paravai muniyamma song)
3) not sure - thinking of couple of songs but not too sure. So, will pass.
The second one is still confusing even with added clue. Only conclusion I can come to is - Each movie has a song which starts with repeated words in the lyrics - darling darling song, kundu kundu and thean thean :D..
Ah! got it, Darling Darling is said to be copied from...from..well..ABBA?
Dhool had the barbie girl song copy-pasted
Kuruvi - havemt heard but I'm sure they would have pinched some american or british pop song:-)
Right, so now 1b should be SPB and SPB Charan - but why this song to connect SPB and SPB Charan ?- why not any other one? Deepangal Pesum which was Charan's first song with IR? Was Pon Maalai Pozhudhu SPB's first song with IR for Bharathi raja? Is there a connection based on this? onnume puriyalaiye:-)
1c - is it Harini and Tippu the connection?
1d - isnt it Lata-Asha connection the answer?
hey answer for 3rd is kannuku mai azhaghu??? randomly thought of some songs + MSV n googled.. in a TFM page read MSV tuned it for some DD program.. correct a??
for second.. immediately i thought , sunidhi chauhan has sung for ketta payan(kuruvi) n gundu gundu(dhool).. but priyaa... ?!?!.. lemme think.. sumthing to do wit lyrics..#>$@..
A-kay, ur wild guesses are all correct.. for #1..
For #2, you are partly correct about the 'prelude' part.. but the songs you mentioned won't help you get the answer.. So, focus on preludes in other songs.. :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ganesh Kumar, no.. that wouldnt make the three songs in the three movies very unique.. I have added another clue to help you in that..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raj, there are several other 'copied/inspired' songs in Tamil.. but the answer for the #2 is, to the best of my knowledge, the only ones to have this unique common thing..
Well, about #1, as I mentioned, the first one is very easy; so you have already got the answer... 1c and 1d are both correct..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ramya, correct for #3..
Ur guess for #2 is not in the right zone.. There are several common things between Dhool and Kuruvi, since they are from the same core team.. but to link it with Priya, which was released 2 decades ago, there is only one common factor.. In fact, the answer is in one of the songs that you have guessed.. If you club that with my answer to A-kay, you will get the answer..
1. a - Sung by IR (dad) and YSR (son) b - sung by SPB Charan (son) and SPB (dad) c - sung by Tippu (hubby) and Harini (wife) d - sung by lata mangeshkar and asha bhosle (sisters)
2. the malay lyrics in the movie???
3. still searching my memory database :(
by malay lyrics i mean - en uyir nee thaane (priya), indhadi kappakezhange (dhool) and happy new year (kuruvi)
ok got it for the 3rd one...chinna chinna aasai...right???
a quick reference to google says even kannukku mai azhagu has been retuned!!!
Okay the next wild answer :D.
Each movie has a song that starts in a language other than tamil - Ennuyir nee thaane, Aruva meesai, Happy New year Song from priya, dhool and kuruvi respectively
I guess my answer for second qn is not correct. This is so confusing. I am sure i am missing something right in front of me. hmmm..
Sorry actually meant Ennuyir neenthane song (not akkarai cheemai). Based on your clues, I am thinking songs with non-tamil beginning, perhaps?
u r giving nice clues.. enna prechna na i dont remember many songs in priya.. i know eh paadal ondru, yen uyir nee thane n akkarai cheemai azhaginile.. out of which eh paadal ondru s the only song i can think of bgm..prelude..interlude etc.. mathhaa songs laam nyabagam illa..
1)
a father & son
b Son & father
c husband & wife
d sisters
2) nehi maalum!
3) china china asai
ivol clue kuduthat dhaan konjam bulb eriyudhu?
Has it got something to do with Malay language preludes?
Yours truly, u are the first to get #2 correct.. Your second guess for #3 is the right one.. the first guess, I think, is a original.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ganesh Kumar, you too nearly guessed #2 right.. In Dhool, there is another song which has the answer to the question.. And, your answer is too general.. If you get the right song, then it really gets narrowed down to just one.. (instead of simply 'other than..' that you mentioned)...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A-kay, you too are spot-on with the guess for #2, but, you too have generalized, like Ganesh has done.. If you dig little more deeper with those three songs that you mentioned, you will realize that you can pin-point to the exact answer..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ramya, among the three songs that you mentioned from Priya, the song with the answer is the middle one. (Remember which sequence you wrote?) If you simply listen to the song from any source online, you will immediately realize where the catch lies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Badri, #1 is correct.. #3 is not.. Clue is that, the answer is in the movie that followed the movie whose song you guessed..
Raj, I just saw your comment.. Now you got the right answer for #2.. :)
okk.. let me try again. ennuyir nee from priya, inthadi from dhool and happy new yr from kuruvi, starts with same language looks like malay..:D..
2) Malaysia Truly Asia
En uyir nee thane - Priya
Happy new year song - kuruvi
Koduva meesa aruva paarva - Dhool
All the songs begin with a vocal prelude in a different language..... enna correct a..?
raju, i know only the priya song though. Never heard dhool except in passign in tea stalls and such. Kuruvi I have never even heard.
I guess.. I'm right on # 3

Ganesh Kumar, you got it this time.. :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Matrix, :)
-----------------------------------
Ramya, you and Ganesh Kumar have guessed the same way.. So, you need to look at what I replied to him yesterday at noon, for you to get the right answer..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raj, appadiya? The Dhool songs were a rage in early 2003.. I hadnt listened to them before watching the movie in Coimbatore.. Almost the whole theater shouted "Aey" during "EnnAdi kappa kizhangE" song.. :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Badri, I am surprised by the news.. I never heard about that song being composed by MSV before. As was discussed in the link, unlike my answer, 'THAT' song was quite modified from the original version, which might be a reason why it largely went unnoticed.
So, the answers are:
1: Songs rendered by relations (father-son, husband-wife or sisters).
2) Each has one song which has a prelude in Malay..
Priya: Akkarai seemai
Dhool: Ennaadi kappakizhange (JogE jogE means Dance Dance in Malay, it seems)
Kuruvi: Happy New Year (Yogi B and co.) sing in Malay.
3) "Kannukku mai azhagu" from Pudhiya Mugam. It was originally composed by MSV for Doordarshan and it was often played between programs, to kill time, in the early 90's.. (before the release of Pudhiya Mugam). It was sung by Vani Jayaram and was quite boring, to be honest. ARR changed it completely to give it a new life with his superb music.
PS: I am not sure about 'Chinna Chinna Aasai' which 'yours truly' and Badri have guessed. It looks like the lyrics are quite different.
Cool.. hey one of the clue which u gave from my answer is priya song lies in the middle of the songs i mentioned..but it is akkarai cheemai which i mentioned last..
Anyways , nice quiz, had fun:)
Ayoo, I missed the quiz :(
raju, MSV music boring-nu-lam sollapadahdu :-)
Lets just say it was not,uh, catchy in a modern way ;-)
You can guess from above point why I didnt hear Dhool much:-)
Ramya, oops.. that is my bad...actually, the answer is not akkarai cheemai.. It is 'Ennuyir needhaney'.. sArri por the conpujion..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
J, eppadi miss panneenga? BTW, did you know the answers for 2 and 3?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Raj, LOL.. MSV's music was 'sleep-inducing'.. I can close my eyes and remember the stage-set song, with Vani jayaram singing (romba sOgamA) 'Azhagu azhagu azhagu.. kannukku mai azhagu.. kavithaikku poi azhagu'... Adhai neenga eppadi venumnAlum eduthukkunga.. ;)
enaku 1st one'ku answer therinju irukumnu avlo nambikaya? :-)
