Congratulations, sir !!

The first thing I came to know in the morning is the big news that my Ph.D. supervisor, Prof. S. Ramakrishnan (RK, as he is fondly called) is the recipient of this year's S.S. Bhatnagar award in chemistry. Whoo.. that is one news we all were waiting to hear for the last two years. Bhatnagar award is given by CSIR for outstanding scientists in specific branches of science and engineering. It is a coveted award and RK truly deserved it.

IMHO, he is an amazing person and great scientist.. All the chemistry that I practice now, was learnt from him.. My post-doc guide, Prof. Reynolds said once that "RK, in my opinion, is the best polymer chemist in India". How true he is.. Among the things that I learnt from his was his quest for perfectness.. Hard to practice but he did and does. The students trained by him all try to ape him, and we are happy and proud in doing so. He is so humble (he would have got many more awards if he wasnt) and honest. This has been a good month for him, after winning the "Department of Energy award Outstanding Research Investigator award" just a fortnight ago..

Oh boy, I wish I was there to share these fine moments.. :-)

Now Sir is busy in receiving wishes from all around, faculties, scientists, administrators, students and ...

The media persons are trying to put up an interview with RK in their papers as early as possible.

We the sudents (our lab) got geared up too. Everybody working hard with the inspiration. This year is really a good year for our lab especially RK.

GP: sorry for hijacking your post, but SURPRISE!, India wins!!...

Deepak, its perfectly fine.. anything you can post..
Yeah, a surprise indeed.. Last evening, I was all geared up to get up 2:30 in the morning, take a shower and come.. but ended up sleeping late, so got up late, and thinking of a Bond-assault, didnt feel enthused enough to come soon.. I came, turned on the Winamp player and Kaif scoring a good hundred and Dhoni smashing a few hits and finishing the tight game in India's favor.. I think the absence of Bond and Vettori helped us.. The story in the final could be pretty different..

yea.. fleming is one shrewd captain.. i want us to set the target in the finals though. getting sick of india chasing targets...

Raju said...

Deepak... I forgot to mention that, this is our first victory against a higher-ranked team in 9 matches!!! That is something we need to fix..

About Fleming, indeed he is shrewd. sometimes he gets over-shrewd.. only then there is a problem. By not playing Bond today, he signalled that "Ok guys, have as much fun as u can, with out him.. all until the finals".. So, our guys might wet their pants when they see Bond charges towards them.. but, they would surely get some confidence out of today's match.. the batting for most part was positive and on-spot.. If we do a good thrashing vs Zim and use it as a perfect batting practice to bring the remaining guys back to form, then we have a good chance in the finals.. To treat Bond with respect in the same league as McGrath, Akram and Donald, and then turn the screws on the remaining puppets... that should be the way to go, IMO.
