As I said to Ram, I think the pride has something to do with it.. If you talk to malayalis, they say "Tamil is very similar to malayalam" and even "malayalathile irundhu vandhadhudhan Tamil"...
Yes, I agree self pride is very much essential to keep together. I guess as we slowly lose discipline, we lose repetition/reproducibility and thus self pride. Fianlly there will be no credibility among us. We should be disciplined. The discipline at matured level is culture. When we lose culture obviously everything is lost.
Ram, IMHO, more than lack of discipline, reproducibility, etc., it is the sense of 'belonging' to the region that makes the difference. Tamils excel very well in pretty much all aspects of science and technology.. Somehow, they dont feel so proud of saying they are tamils.. The reason, in the recent times could be a) our state's resistance to Hindi which most of us dont like but can do nothing about; b) No surnames, so our names are just 'hanging'; c) LTTE and Rajiv murder; d) Actors-turning politicians ruling us for most part of the last 3 decades.
